Starting a Photo Club in Palma: A Journey Out of My Comfort Zone
A photo from the new port of El Molinar from our first photo walk. Shot with my Canon A1.
As a passionate photographer, I have always been fascinated by both digital and analog photography. In school I learnt the whole dark room process, which I wish I’d still remember…
Anyway. I have been capturing memories and moments for years, but I wanted to take my love for photography to the next level by meeting and connecting with others who share the same interest. This led me to take the bold step of starting a photo club for photography enthusiasts in Palma.
The idea of starting a club was a little out of my comfort zone, but I was determined to bring together like-minded individuals and create a community where we can share our experiences, knowledge, and love for photography. I wrote a post about in the Facebook group of Girl Gone International Mallorca and was thrilled to receive many responds. The club is open to all levels of photographers, from beginners to pros, who are interested in exploring different techniques, styles, and equipment.

We’ve only met up twice, at the end of last year. But it would be cool if we in the future met up a few times per monthcto discuss different topics related to photography, showcase our work, and collaborate on projects. Perhaps we could organize photography workshops, field trips, and challenges to help us improve our skills and even grow our portfolios. The most important thing for me is to meet new people with the same interest, and have fun.
Analog photography has a special place in my heart, and I would be delighted to see more members share my love for film photography. Perhaps we could have dedicated sessions where we discuss the art of film photography, share tips and tricks, and discuss the challenges and rewards of using film cameras.
I’m looking forward to see the talent and creativity of the members, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from them and grow as a photographer.
In conclusion, starting the photo club in Palma really is out of my comfort zone, but I’m hoping it will be a rewarding experience. If you are a photography enthusiast in Palma and are looking for a supportive and inclusive community, I invite you to join and start your own journey in photography.
