As a photographer, I've had the opportunity to explore many beautiful places around Europe. But there's one place that always holds a special place in my heart – El Molinar, my home in Mallorca.
Ever since moving to Mallorca back in 2011 I always wanted to live here. But the rents was too much for us at the time, and good places were hard to find. But then, the Friday before lockdown in 2020 we found the apartment where we currently live. But we had to wait until it all opened up to move. However, I’m now in my absolute dream spot.
Here are just a few of the many reasons why I love living in El Molinar:
The Light: Mallorca is known for its beautiful light, and El Molinar is no exception. Whether it's the golden hour or the soft glow of dusk, the light here is truly a dream for a photographer. I find myself constantly inspired by the way the light illuminates the streets, buildings, and boats along the harbor.
The Atmosphere: El Molinar is a lively and vibrant neighborhood that's filled with character. From its charming cafes and restaurants, Sunday walkers., buskers and the ability to go for a swim 6-8 months per year, you always feel inspired to do something when stepping out. With its close proximity to the sea, there's a fresh, salty breeze that adds to the overall atmosphere. Aaaand you’re only a 15 min bike ride from the bustling city of Palma.
The Community: One of the things I love most about El Molinar is the sense of community. Whether I'm grabbing a coffee at my favorite café or just taking a walk along the harbor, I feel like I'm part of something special. I lived in Palma Old Town for a while and there the local restaurants never recognised us even though we visited a lot. They just assumed we were tourists.
The Location: El Molinar is perfectly located, just a short drive from the city center and the airport. This makes it the perfect base for exploring the rest of the island, whether it's the rugged Tramuntana Mountains or the pristine beaches of the East coast.
The cafés: They are maybe not the most trendy cafés with superfood smoothies and açai bowl (even though you can find it here and there) but no where else can you find a first line genuine place like Xorri, where all the locals go and prices haven’t sky rocketed… yet.
If you're looking for a charming and photogenic neighborhood in Mallorca, El Molinar is the perfect place. With its beautiful light, lively atmosphere, friendly community, and convenient location, this neighborhood is truly a special place that I'm lucky to call home.
