Why you need both a wedding photographer and a videographer - And it’s not for Tiktok

You’re planning a wedding in Mallorca and now you’re looking at your budget for photography and video, and asking yourselves: “Do we really need both?”

As someone who works as both a wedding photographer and videographer in Mallorca, I get this question all the time.

I am biased, of course. But the answer isn’t just “yes.” It’s why you need both that might make you go “aaah”. Or at least, snap you out of your TikTok bubble.

Because it’s not about:

  • Getting the same thing twice. It’s about telling your story in two completely different ways.

  • Getting a videographer because everyone on TikTok and Instagram does. Yes, it looks cool, being able to share something beautiful on your socials right away. BUT, that shouldn’t be WHY you book a videographer.

Let me explain.

The Video: Vibe, sound and emotion in motion

A wedding film isn’t just about pretty visuals. It’s about what your day felt like. A good videographer will capture things that photography simply can’t.

Like…

  • The sizzle of the paella pan during cocktail hour.

  • That funny comment from your uncle that had the whole table laughing, that you completely missed.

  • The music swelling as you walk down the aisle. While I’m not always allowed to use your exact music in my videos, I’ll be able to mimic the vibe.

  • The cheers, toasts, and tears during speeches.

  • The sea breeze, the clinking of glasses, the beat dropping on the dance floor.

  • The full ceremony, as it was. Many videographers can offer a beautifully edited ceremony with good audio. Because I promise you, that chances are that you most likely won’t remember what the celebrant said… You were busy keeping it together!

A film gives you the sounds, the voices, the motion. It's almost as if you could smell the eucalyptus in your bouquet again or feel that warm Mallorca sunset on your skin.

It's the vibe. The romance. The party. Alive again.

The Photos: Storytelling, memories and tangible art for your home

Photography, on the other hand, captures the stillness in the chaos — those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments that become treasured snapshots.

Like…

  • A stolen glance during the ceremony.

  • Your grandmother’s hand on your shoulder.

  • The flower girl asleep in someone’s lap by 11 PM.

  • The exact moment you both laughed so hard you couldn’t breathe.

These are the images you’ll frame. The ones you’ll print in a thank-you album for your family. The one you’ll hang in your living room — big and bold and full of love.

Photographs become heirlooms. They’re the timeless visuals you’ll pass down, the ones you’ll keep in your wallet, or tuck into a drawer to find years later and smile.

Together they complete the story

Imagine watching your wedding film and hearing the laughter, the music, and the vows — then flipping through your wedding album and seeing those exact moments frozen in time. You’d never choose between your eyes and your ears… so why choose between video and photo?

They’re not duplicates — they’re layers of memory.

The most common comment I get from my couples years later is:
”Every anniversary, we watch our wedding film with a glass of cava.”
Some even watch the entire full length including the full ceremony, speeches and all.

So... Do You Really Need Both?

Only if you want to:

  • Relive the feeling of the day

  • Remember what it all sounded like

  • Have timeless images to print and gift

  • Capture the full spectrum — the wild, the quiet, the emotional, and the silly

As someone who does both, I’ve seen firsthand how they complement each other. And I always feel a bit sad when a couple says, “I wish we’d booked a videographer too.” Because once the day is over, you can’t get those sounds and movements back.
